PHOT 4120 - Theory and Methods in Photography5 credit hours Formerly - ART 4120 This seminar explores the many methodologies employed by art historians and critics to understand works of photography throughout its historical development. Students will engage with the questions and debates that have shaped the field of critical analysis and discourse about the medium, and attempt to understand how the discipline itself is part of historical processes. Through critical reading and class discussions, students will not only investigate critical analysis of photography but also begin to articulate their own positions and voices. Students will develop their own portfolio during the quarter inclusive of artist statement. This course is taught in the winter quarter and is the second of three consecutive senior classes in preparation for the BFA exhibition.
