Objectives
The international development internship program (IDIP) is a 20-credit, three-phase academic program for SU undergraduates. The goal of IDIP is to instill a critical understanding of international economic development issues. Students are challenged to explore social injustice and examine the root causes and consequences of poverty in developing countries by completing a 10 week internship experience at an NGO ( non-government organization). IDIP actively supports commitment to the Jesuit values of service, leadership and the promotion of social justice.
Admission and Program Description
Applications are available to full-time enrolled students from all disciplines who have reached their junior year. Students must have a 3.00 GPA to apply. Applicants are selected by the director and an advisory committee. Students earn 20 credits over three quarters. In fall quarter there is a preparatory seminar in international economic development of three-credits followed by a 15-credit internship in a developing country during winter quarter. Spring quarter consists of a two-credit integration seminar whereby students synthesize and reflect upon their internship experiences. Students present their research at SU’s Research Day (SUURA).
