ENGL 4550 - Americans in Paris

An interdisciplinary study-abroad course that traces the rise of Modernism in its socio-historical-scientific and cultural contexts, from its roots in impressionist and post-impressionist art to its flowering in the literary and artistic life of Paris in the period just before and after WWI. Phase I begins on campus spring quarter and focuses on Hemingway, Stein, Lawrence, Picasso, and other expatriates.
