Interdisciplinary Arts with a Specialization in Visual Art, BA

The interdisciplinary arts major builds on the cross-disciplinary nature of the Seattle University arts departments by allowing students to choose a specialization within the arts while they also integrate courses from other art forms. One student interested in musical performance might choose to bridge theatre and music, while another student might combine music and visual art courses to round out a specialization in production theatre. Individual programs are designed in consultation with a faculty advisor.

Requirements

In order to earn the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Interdisciplinary Arts with a specialization in Visual Art, students must complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits, with a cumulative and a major/program grade point average of 2.00, including the following:

II. College of Arts and Sciences Requirements

  • Modern Languages 1150, 1250, 1350, or equivalent (15)

NOTE:

Students earning this major must demonstrate competency through the level of 1350 in a language other than English. This competency is ordinarily achieved by successful completion of the three-course sequence: 1150, 1250, and 1350. Because these courses are a college requirement, no course in the sequence may be taken on a pass/fail, correspondence, or audit basis. Placement into other than the beginning course of the sequence is achieved by acceptable performance on the Modern Language Competency Examination. See the Modern Languages and Cultures Department for details on the examinations. Courses used to satisfy the College of Arts and Sciences modern language requirement may not be used to fulfill major requirements.

III. Major Requirements

65 credits in interdisciplinary arts, including 40 credits in specialization:

Electives (25)

In addition to the 40 credits of specialization courses in visual art, choose the remaining 25 credits, for a total of 65, in any combination of ART, ARTH, ARTL, ARTD, MUSC, PHOT, or THTR. In consultation with the student’s advisor, 10 of these credits must be from a discipline other than visual art (ART) and 10 must be taken at the 3000-4000 level. (see Course Descriptions )

Note:

Students majoring in interdisciplinary arts may not earn a second degree or major within their specialization discipline.
