Student Consumer Information and Privacy Laws


As part of Seattle University’s compliance with the reporting requirements of federal consumer information regulations, the University produces and delivers to students reports on a broad range of areas, including retention and graduation rates, campus security, student privacy, drug and alcohol issues, financial assistance, and athletics. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (“FERPA”) Annual Notification

The Student Right-to-Know Act

 
The Student Right-to-Know Act requires schools to disclose completion or graduation rates for degree seeking, full-time, first-time undergraduate students. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crimes Statistics Act (the “Clery Act”)

 
In accordance with the Clery Act, the University publishes an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which discloses crime statistics as well as crime prevention policies and security measures on campus.  For additional information and to access the report, visit https://seattleu.edu/safety/clery-report/ or contact the University Department of Public Safety at (206) 296-5900. The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act

The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act

The Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1994

The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act requires institutions of higher education, as a condition of receiving federal funds, to certify that they have adopted and implemented a program to prevent the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees on campus as part of its activities and programs.  In compliance with this Act, the University’s Substance Abuse Policies and Prevention Brochure, available at https://www.seattleu.edu/deanofstudents/policies/other-university-policies/, describes substance abuse prevention information, resources and standards of conduct for students relating to drug or alcohol use.  For more information, contact the Dean of Students’ Office at (206) 296-6060 or https://www.seattleu.edu/deanofstudents/

Gainful Employment Disclosures

 

As of July 1, 2019, the U.S. Department of Education published a new Gainful Employment rule in the Federal Register rescinding the existing Gainful Employment regulation. In accordance with this guidance, Seattle University has chosen to early implement the rescission of the Gainful Employment rule. The university provides program disclosures published in June 2019 on Gainful Employment eligible certificate programs for archival purposes only.  Those disclosures are available online at: https://www.seattleu.edu/academics/gainful-employment-disclosures/.
