PHOT 3200 - The Visual Book: Photography, Art, Graphic5 credit hours This course is open to and encouraging any and all media, including photography, video stills, text, drawing, painting, graphic arts, and also creative writing. Exploring the visual book as a form will reveal how sequencing pages within covers can create rich, extended meaning, be it graphic and/or textual. Use of computers is welcomed and will sometimes be mandatory as a production means, however computer instruction will not be a focus. Rather, students will be encouraged during the first half of the class to develop a topic to explore in-depth through creative exercises, analyzing contemporary and historical visual books, and discussing texts that illuminate formal strategies towards enhancing content. In the second half of the class students will work to develop an extended project within the visual book format. May be repeated one time for credit.
