PSYC 3550 - Positive Psychology5 credit hours This course examines the emerging field of Positive Psychology, which uses science to understand and enhance positive aspects of the human experience (i.e., “the good life”). Positive Psychology stands in contrast to some more traditional psychological approaches that focus on what’s wrong with people and what we can do to treat disorders of the mind. We will critically examine theory and research in Positive Psychology, including topics like positive traits and emotions, happiness, gratitude, and successful relationships. What are the conditions and characteristics that help people be their best? We will also explore applications and interventions informed by Positive Psychology in domains personally relevant to students’ lives such as school, work, and close relationships.
