HIST 3540 - Gender and Sexuality in Film

5 credit hours
This course explores gender and sexuality in film, in varied settings around the world. We highlight women’s role and place in society through film, as well as the intersectionality of gender, sexuality, class, race, and ethnicity. We consider how gender and race are constructed and legible identities are produced. Other significant themes are history, fantasy, landscape, and architecture. This course draws on interdisciplinary perspectives from film studies, history, literature, art history, and architectural history. Many of the films seen in whole or part are directed by female feminist filmmakers. Cross-listed with FILM 3010.
