STMA 5420 - Chaplaincy I: Chaplain as Reflective Practitioner3 credit hours Formerly - STMA 542 This course links Clinical Pastoral Education [CPE] and Theological Reflection as a method. The student will need to enroll in a certified CPE Unit, typically a hospital in the Puget Sound Area. In addition to fulfilling the CPE requirements the student will examine, become knowledgeable and make use of theological reflection methods in their verbatim, critical incidents, and reports submitted for academic credit. The primary focus of this for-credit elective option will be using the clinical setting for deeper understandings and grounding of their theological constructs. Emphasis will also be given to the role, function, and purpose of the chaplain in a variety of settings. Students will identify and appropriate the tools for reflecting theologically in their clinical write-ups.
