NPLR 5470 - Global Civil Society: The Rise of the Global Commons

This course will review the recent history of global civil society and examine its conceptual frameworks and assumptions. The role of non-state actors including nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), transnational enterprises, and social movements will be examined, including a focus on special topics such as the environment, public health and women’s rights, and the impact of new information technologies on the global commons.
