Objectives

Web, Application and Technology Studies (WATS) provides a culturally-grounded approach to study the creation and reception of consumer and media technologies. Networked devices, applications and Websites provide a means to shape our world, and our students will guide the creation of these new tools. WATS offers flexible, timely courses that serve continuing education, degree completion, and professional development needs.

The Web Development Certificate is an intensive eight-course (40 credits) sequence designed to take students from Web User to Web Creator, preparing them for the role of Frontend Web Developer on a typical Web production team. Following a standards-based curriculum that is updated every year, courses cover aspects of frontend development from basic HTML and CSS to advanced JavaScript. In addition, students explore the history and cultural impact of the Web, all while modeling standards of professional practice within the Web technology industry.
