Objectives
The Intensive English Program (IEP) allows students whose English proficiency scores fall below the score required to enter Seattle University to raise their English proficiency scores to the level required to enter Seattle University’s English Language & Culture Bridge Program (ELCB). Score requirements are as follows:
IBT 92, PBT 580 IELTS 7.0 or PTE 63 = Full Admission to SU
IBT 68-91, PBT 520-579, IELTS 6-6.5, or PTE 46-62 = Admission to SU, required to take ELCB
IBT 60-67, PBT 597-519, IELTS 5.5, or PTE 44-45 = Admission to IEP only
Note: Admission to the IEP is not an admission into Seattle University. Students must successfully complete the IEP in order to enter Seattle University.
English Proficiency Admission Requirements
Students must send proof of the scores on one of the English proficiency tests outlined above to gain entrance to the IEP.
Description of Courses
The IEP is a full-time course of study (25 hours per week) intended to raise the English proficiency of non-native speakers of English to the level required to enter Seattle University.
The IEP meets the U.S. Government’s required number of hours. IEP courses meet five hours per day, five days per week, including the following:
At present the Seattle University IEP operates at the Advanced Level only.
IEP Program Schedule
The IEP is offered during the ten-week Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters.
Academic Progression
Students who complete all five IEP courses with grades of B- (80%) or higher will be fully admitted to Seattle University with the requirement to enter the ELCB program in the next quarter.
Students in the IEP may also take any of the externally offered English proficiency tests and enter Seattle University on the basis of a passing score.
