Objectives
Seattle University recognizes that many students come to the University wishing to explore academic programs before committing themselves to a major. The Premajor Studies Program is intended to provide freshmen and sophomores with this opportunity while assuring they are well prepared for whatever direction they choose. Premajor Studies also works with matriculated students considering changing their major. Each student is assigned an advisor who not only assists in academic guidance, but also aids in the process of discerning major and vocational options.
The Premajor Studies Program offers specialized services to guide students through the major exploration process. These services include:
- Personalized, holistic advising from professional staff
- Information on academic majors at Seattle University
- Intentional, developmental activities to work through discernment processes
General Program Requirements
The Premajor Studies Program is for freshmen and sophomores. Students enroll in core and exploratory courses appropriate to their academic level. There is no additional coursework required. Students may apply for admittance into a major or professional school at any time after their first quarter, but must do so prior to the attainment of junior status. Students who fail to apply for or be accepted into a major or professional school by the attainment of junior status are subject to dismissal from the university.
