Objectives

Economics is a social science that examines the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. After completing required coursework in micro- and macroeconomics as well as statistics, students choose from a range of electives such as environmental economics, economic inequality, health economics, international trade, and behavioral economics. Economics courses provide students with analytical tools to solve problems and make decisions in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. A major in economics combined with a strong mathematics background prepares students for graduate studies in economics. An economics major along with coursework in public affairs, political science, communication, or business provides an excellent foundation for graduate studies in law, public policy, public administration, or business.
