PSYC 5400 - Legal and Professional Ethics in Counseling

2 credit hours
The course provides an overview of the ACA Code of Ethics and Washington State law (WAC’s and RCW’s) as applied to mental health counseling. Students examine their ethical decision-making processes as a professional counselor. The course provides instruction regarding widely accepted ethical norms as well as common legal regulations. Additional topics will include professionalism, licensure, moral responsibility, self-care and issues of power. Ethical dilemmas confronted in clinical practice are explored through case studies, role-plays, lecture, and small group exploration.
