CEEGR 5230 - Advanced Steel Design

4 credit hours
Design of the main structural elements of a standard steel building. Topics include: 1) steel deck floor systems including composite and non-composite steel floor systems, 2) bolted and welded shear-tab connections, 3) so-called ‘gravity’ columns, 4) lateral resisting structural systems including moment frames, reduced-beam sections, eccentric and concentrically braced frames, and buckling restrained braces (BRBs). Emphasis on current construction practices and how constraints of economy, sustainability, and constructability factor into a structural engineer’s design process. Registration restrictions may be bypassed by the department with permission of instructor.
