STMM 5280 - Women in Scriptures3 credit hours This course examines the representations of women in texts from Hebrew Scriptures, Apocrypha, and Christian Scriptures using various critical approaches such as feminists, historical, literary, ideological, cultural, etc. Special attention is given to a feminist hermeneutics of suspicion to explore how biblical, androcentric-patriarchal texts have shaped the understanding of women in Western Christian culture. Discussion will focus on a feminist hermeneutics of creative imagination to re-interpret and re-appropriate the stories of biblical women for ministerial praxis, seeking to empower wo/men and form leaders to build a more just, egalitarian and humane world.
