Marine and Conservation Biology, BS


Requirements


In order to earn the bachelor of science degree with a major in marine and conservation biology, students must complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits with a cumulative and major/program grade point average of 2.00, including the following:

NOTES:


  1. A minimum grade of C (2.00) is required for any biology course that will serve as a prerequisite for another biology course.
  2. One course of plant science beyond the BIOL 1610/1611, 1620/1621, 1630/1631 series is required

III. Other Major Department Requirements


55 credits in natural sciences, social sciences, or humanities, including:

Mathematics, choose one of the following two courses:


Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities


Natural Sciences Elective (10 credits)


Elective in natural sciences connected to marine and conservation science, including BIOL 2350  or above, CHEM 2000-level or above, PHYS 2000-level or above, ENSC 3000-level or above, or another course approved by department.

NOTE: A maximum of 5 credits of independent study in biology can be counted towards electives in the major.

Social Sciences and Humanities Elective (5 credits)


Choose one of the following electives in social sciences or humanities connected to marine and conservation science:

Candidacy


Candidacy is required in order to apply an education abroad research experience towards biology senior synthesis credit. Candidacy is achieved by successfully completing the following: BIOL 1610 /1611 , 1620 /1621 , 1630 /1631 , 2600 , 2700 , 3650 , 4650 , and/or 3500  and CHEM 1520  all with C or better; and a minimum biology major grade point average of 2.80.
