College of Arts and Sciences Program

In advising pre-law students, Seattle University’s College of Arts and Sciences follows the recommendations of the Association of American Law Schools. These recommendations stress comprehension and expression in words, critical understanding of institutions and values with which the law deals, and creative power in thinking. These capacities may be developed through study in any of a number of departmental majors. The best preparation and a requirement for entrance to many law schools is the completion of a four-year bachelor’s degree.

Entering students in the College of Arts and Sciences who are interested in law must declare a major in the field in which they are most interested and for which they are best suited. Students should consult with the prelaw advisor at the beginning of their junior and senior years to confirm they are properly prepared for the law school application process. In addition, at the beginning of their junior year, students must acquaint themselves with the entrance requirements of the law school they plan to attend and make arrangements to take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT).
