The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seattle University offers a professionally-focused structural engineering graduate degree. This program has been designed in response to the growing demand for entry-level structural engineers to have an advanced level of education in both technical and professional realms. Graduates from this program will hold a strong understanding of holistic building performance through courses in advanced structural analysis, advanced steel and concrete design, seismic design, and performance-based design. Moreover, graduates will be prepared for careers in industry through professional development courses in project management, communication, and professional ethics.
Master of Science in Structural Engineering
This program has been developed collaboratively between faculty members at Seattle University and an industrial advisory board representing the top structural engineering firms in the Seattle region as well as the public sector. This program emphasizes learning through a student centered course design. Courses are taught by faculty who utilize teaching approaches that support student learning such as team-based work. Class sizes are small, allowing all students to have close interaction with faculty resources. The degree can be completed in nine months of full time, intensive study, or over two years or more of part-time study. Courses are taught in the morning to accommodate work schedules for part-time study.
