About the Center
Created through a presidential initiative in 2004, the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) is a dynamic outgrowth of Seattle University’s Jesuit tradition and mission. The CCE aims to engage SU students to serve, learn and lead for a just and humane world and to build capacity for social change in our local community.
The center works collaboratively with campus and community partners to implement programs in the following areas:
- Academic Service-Learning
- Community Partnerships
- Campus Collaboration
- Student Leadership
Service-Learning Courses
Academic service-learning is the connection of concepts in the classroom to service experiences in the community. Service-learning encourages you to begin or to continue service, in preparation for a lifetime of civic engagement and leadership. Through service, individuals have the opportunity to apply the concepts, theories and other material that are covered in class. The community becomes a text for the class and is as critical to “read” as other textbooks.
