NURS 6102 - Antepartum, Postpartum and Newborn Lab

2 credit hours
Focus on the foundational skills needed to care for birthing families in an ambulatory setting, as well as discharge teaching and newborn care in an inpatient environment. Students and faculty will meet 4 times during the quarter. The first two sessions will provide the student midwife with the opportunity to take a medical history, diagnose, treat and provide patient education for standardized patients in various gestations of pregnancy with a focus on cultural humility, trauma informed practice, and gender affirming care. Students will model professional behavior and roles in a clinical setting and will apply the management process. The second two lab sessions will focus on Postpartum and Newborn Skills.
