CRJS 5230 - Punishment and Social Theory

Exploration of the major social theories of punishment, historical and contemporary penological practices, and the death penalty and the modern execution process. Focus on society’s justification for punishment as a response to crime and the function and meaning of punishment in modern society. Jointly offered as an undergraduate/graduate course.
