ENGL 4230 - Medieval Sexualities5 credit hours A study of medieval texts, primarily literary, but also historical, religious, or philosophical, through the lens of queer theory and from an intersectional perspective. Primary sources may include chivalric romances, epic stories, or lyrical poems from Christian, Muslim, or Jewish perspectives. Queer theory will illuminate and interrogate medieval understandings of sex, sexuality, and gender; conversely, medieval texts will illuminate and interrogate contemporary theories about gender and sexuality. INT; Pre-1800.
