SPEX 2710 - Exercise Psychology5 credit hours Designed to introduce students to the psychological antecedents and consequences of exercise behaviors. The antecedents of exercise behaviors are the psychosocial and cognitive factors (e.g., beliefs, attitudes, personality traits) that facilitate and/or inhibit exercise behaviors. The consequences of exercise behaviors are the physical, psychosocial, and cognitive outcomes (e.g., self-efficacy, body image, mental health) of exercise participation. The antecedents and consequences of exercise behaviors will be presented within the context of contemporary conceptual and theoretical models in exercise psychology. This course is designed to provide students with an overview and foundation of the important psychosocial phenomena related to antecedents and consequences of exercise behaviors. Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in selected areas within exercise psychology through class discussions and assignments.
