INST 3000 - Global Histories: Encounters and Exchanges5 credit hours Examines worldwide encounters of people and the exchanges of goods and ideas since 1450. Analyzes how peoples in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe have understood one another and adapted to their coexistence. Highlights little-known individual actors in world history–the traveler, the explorer, the immigrant - searching for adventure and new opportunities. Interprets primary and secondary historical sources. Employs Orientalist, globalization, and feminist theories to demonstrate how global encounters have changed over time. Crosslisted with HIST 3000.
