INST 3300 - International Social Development5 credit hours Analyzes concrete livelihood issues in poor countries in light of how development problems are framed and debated internationally. Combines a study of development theories, discourses and organizations with how ordinary people adapt to or confront development. Complements an economic approach by situating international development in postcolonial contexts, and relating this to concerns such as gender, ethnic culture, sustainability, labor, and popular participation.
