FILM 3120 - Silent Film5 credit hours An introduction to the history of silent film, from its beginnings in France and America through its expansion and development throughout the world. Through a study of how film techniques developed to solve the problems of creating narrative through moving pictures, students will understand how those developments underlie the cinematic practices of today. Films to be studied will be drawn from both Western and non- Western traditions, including American, European, Soviet, Chinese and Japanese productions.
