The bachelor of science in chemical sciences degree is recommended for those students desiring a solid foundation in chemistry along with greater freedom of choice in their elective courses (e.g., for a double major, minor(s), or study abroad). While this degree is not considered adequate preparation for graduate studies in Chemistry, it is excellent preparation for pre-health students who intend to apply to medical, dental, pharmacy, and related programs, and also for a variety of chemistry-related careers, such as laboratory research, laboratory technician, clinical lab science, education, scientific sales.

Requirements
In order to earn the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Chemical Sciences, students must complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits with a cumulative and major/department grade point average of 2.00, including the following: I. Core Curriculum Requirements
Module I: Engaging Academic Inquiry
Module II: Engaging Jesuit Traditions
Module III: Engaging the World
II. Major Program Requirements
50 to 51 credits in chemistry, including: Chemistry Electives:
Choose 10 credits from the following: III. Other Major Department Requirements
30 credits, including: Choose a physics series:
Series a: - PHYS 1050 - Mechanics 4 credit hours
- PHYS 1051 - Mechanics Lab 1 credit hour
- PHYS 1060 - Waves, Sound, Electricity and Magnetism 4 credit hours
- PHYS 1061 - Waves, Sound, Electricity and Magnetism Lab 1 credit hour
- PHYS 1070 - Thermodynamics, Optics, and Modern Physics 4 credit hours
- PHYS 1071 - Thermodynamics, Optics, and Modern Physics Lab 1 credit hour
Series b: - PHYS 1210 - Mechanics 4 credit hours
- PHYS 1211 - Mechanics Lab 1 credit hour
- PHYS 1220 - Electricity and Magnetism 4 credit hours
- PHYS 1221 - Electricity and Magnetism Lab 1 credit hour
- PHYS 1230 - Waves, Optics, and Heat 4 credit hours

NOTE:
CHEM 4950 is limited to a maximum of 2 credits. Credit not applied towards the major may count as general elective. |
