Certificate in Software Engineering

The Software Engineering graduate certificate program provides students with specialized knowledge and training in software engineering. This certificate program consists of required courses in software project management, architecture and design, software testing, and a choice of an elective. These courses are part of the MSCS with a specialization in software engineering program and require advanced undergraduate coursework in computer science. Courses in this certificate program can be applied towards earning an MSCS degree.

Requirements

I. Required Courses

CPSC 5110 - Fundamentals of Software Engineering 5 credit hours ^*
CPSC 5120 - Software Project Management 3 credit hours
CPSC 5200 - Software Architecture and Design 5 credit hours
CPSC 5210 - Software Testing and Debugging 5 credit hours

II. Elective

Choose one of the following elective courses, 5 credits:

CPSC 5220 - User Experience Design 5 credit hours
CPSC 5240 - Software as a Service 5 credit hours
CPSC 5250 - Mobile Software Development 5 credit hours
CPSC 5710 - Security in Computing 5 credit hours

NOTE:

^*Students with software engineering experience can be waived from CPSC 5110 and reduce the overall required credits for the certificate to 18.
