Objectives
This program is focused on assisting individuals who have not already taken the science courses required for admission by health professions schools, and who may benefit from advice and assistance in preparation for a career in the health professions. Those interested in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, optometry, and physician assisting have participated successfully in the post-baccalaureate program at Seattle University.
Admission
Applicants for the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Professional Health Certificate program must have:
- Completed a four-year undergraduate degree at a US or Canadian University
- Earned a previous cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Need to complete at least 45 credits of the Core pre-health science courses
- Demonstrate their commitment to the field through work, volunteering, shadowing, or other activities
- Understand and can articulate their motivation for entering the healthcare field
- Have the support of a former professor, mentor, or other
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Completed Pre-calculus: Algebra (Math 1021) and Trig (Math 1022) or higher. This is the pre-req for physics sequence.
- If not, students can take the courses at SU.
- Completed a year of high school chemistry or higher.
- If not, students can take CHEM 1000, Preparatory Chemistry Tutorial (1 credit)

Curriculum Overview
The certificate is an individually designed curriculum. Students will successfully complete a minimum of 45 credits from (1) the core pre-health science courses and (2) program electives with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. The time required to complete the certificate ranges from 12 to 24 months depending on the preparation of the incoming student. It also depends on if the student elects to enroll full-time or part-time.
