NOTE:

*Students may be waived from one or more of these preparatory courses if they have prior equivalent coursework.

Applied algorithms course:

• CPSC 5610 - Artificial Intelligence 5 credit hours (5 credits)

Systems course:

• CPSC 5520 - Distributed Systems 5 credit hours (5 credits)

Choose one of the following five software development courses (5 credits):

• CPSC 5240 - Software as a Service 5 credit hours
• CPSC 5250 - Mobile Software Development 5 credit hours
• CPSC 5300 - Physical Database Design & Optimization 5 credit hours
• CPSC 5400 - Compiler Principles and Techniques 5 credit hours
• CPSC 5700 - Computer Graphics 5 credit hours

Choose one of the following three data science electives (5 credits):

• CPSC 5340 - Text Processing and Search 5 credit hours
• CPSC 5350 - Social Media Analytics 5 credit hours
• CPSC 5600 - Parallel Computing 5 credit hours

Capstone project (5 credits):

• CPSC 5830 - Data Science Capstone Project 5 credit hours

NOTES:

1. Students with previous comparable course work can waive MATH 5315 and reduce the overall required credits for the degree.
2. Satisfactory performance (B- or better) in CPSC 5830 is required.
3. With departmental approval, a graduate research project (CPSC 5990) consisting of at least 5 credits on a topic related to data science can be used in lieu of a data science elective.
