Master of Arts

Students pursuing the Master of Arts degree will create their own course of studies, exploring theology and spirituality, and its relationship with other disciplines. Faithful to the reflection/formation principle of all STM degrees, Spiritual Discernment will serve as the formation dimension of the MA degree, Theology and Spirituality bringing emphasis on the relationship of these two foci. In collaboration with other colleges, possible fields include: spirituality, theology, scripture, spiritual direction, philosophy, social sciences, law, physical sciences, etc.

Degree Requirements:

I. Scripture

9 credits:

STMM 5260 - Hebrew Scriptures: Prophetic Context 3 credit hours
Selective in Scripture

Choose one of the following:

STMM 5270 - Christian Scriptures: Narratives 3 credit hours
STMM 5380 - Christian Scriptures: Letters 3 credit hours

II. Systematic and Historical Theology

6 credits:

STMM 5000 - Theology of the Human Person 3 credit hours
STMM 5650 - Theology and Spirituality 3 credit hours

III. Spirituality, Ethics, and Justice

9 credits:

STMM 5700 - Spiritual Discernment 3 credit hours
Selective in Ethics/Justice

Choose one of the following:

STMM 5610 - Christian Spirituality and Prayer 3 credit hours
STML 5630 - Contemporary Expressions in Spirituality 3 credit hours
STMA 5200 - Spiritualities: East and West 3 credit hours

IV. Program Synthesis

STMA 5590 - MA Research Synthesis 3 credit hours
