Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing/Adult/Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner


The Adult-Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) post-master’s certifcate program is a specialty track of advance practice nursing which focuses on the delivery of advance practice care to the adult/geriatric population who are at greatest risk with unstable chronic, acute, or life-threatening conditions. The AG-ACNP post-master’s certificate program is designed for primary care nurse practitioners to expand their current knowledge and scope of practice to manage the acute and unstable conditions. The program will prepare nurse practitioners to be able to practice advance practice nursing in the acute care environments including inpatient hospital care, emergency departments, and critical care units in both the urban centers as well as the rural resource limited communities.  

Admissions Requirements


  • Completed Application for Graduate Admission and nonrefundable $55 application fee (fee waived for Seattle University alumni)
  • Evidence of MSN degree in Nursing or health-related field from a CCNE or NLNAC accredited nursing program and a regionally accredited institution
  • Copy of current RN licensure with no practice restrictions
  • Current ARNP licensure with no practice restrictions
  • Statement describing professional and personal goals, including reasons for interest in the post-master’s certificate program and this particular specialty, as well as the fit with the Seattle University and College of Nursing mission and values
  • Professional résumé; two years of work experience preferred
  • Using College of Nursing forms, two letters of recommendation (at least one from an academic source) who can speak to the applicant’s potential for success in a advanced practice nursing program
  • If English is not applicant’s native language, official English proficiency scores meeting the university’s entrance requirements must be submitted. See policy 2008-01 in Admission Policies for details. Admission through Culture and Language Bridge Program is not an option.
  • Successful interview with faculty

 

Certificate Requirements:


The Adult-Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) certificate requires 5 consecutive quarters of full-time study to prepare nurse practitioners to be able to practice advance practice nursing in acute care environments.

*Must be taken within 3 years of application, unless applicant has maintained current clinical practice.

B- is the minimum passing grade for specialty courses.

Minimum credits required for certificate: (38 to 66)
