Post-Master’s Certificate/Literacy Specialist

This certificate program is designed for students who already have a master’s degree and a Washington state teaching certificate and wish to earn the Washington state endorsement in reading.

Certificate Requirements:

I. Prerequisites

EDUC 5000 - Introduction to Educational Research (or equivalent)
EDUC 5150 - Multicultural Perspectives (or equivalent)

Choose one of the following courses (or equivalent):

EDUC 5110 - Child Development
EDUC 5120 - Adolescent Psychology

II. Required Literacy Courses

24 credits, including:

LITC 5210 - Teaching with Literature from Diverse Perspectives
LITC 5220 - Writing Development and Instruction
LITC 5240 - Language and Literacy Assessment and Implications for Teaching
LITC 5250 - Research and Evidence-Based Practice in Language and Literacy
LITC 5260 - Academic Language and Literacy in Content Area Subjects
LITC 5270 - Specialized Language and Literacy Interventions
LITC 5280 - Practicum: Literacy for Special Needs
