ACCT 5900 - Cloud Computing Cybersecurity and SOC Audits

3 credit hours
This course will provide an overview of the SOC process. Students will perform a real SOC Report: Assessments and evaluations that cover Seattle U Information Technology and analyze the cloud cybersecurity risks. You will need to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. We will leverage the use of Artificial Intelligence in the SOC Audit Process. We will review and assess the following possible SOC Reports depending on student enrollment:

1. Amazon SOC Reports

2. Ellucian Colleague SOC Reports

3. Microsoft Azure SOC Reports

4. Microsoft Office 365 SOC Reports

5. Rapid 7 SOC Reports.

Students will put into practice what they learn with a real SOC Audit project covering Seattle U Information Technology (IT) Services. Some projects may not be performed based on student enrollment and stakeholder availability.

The course will cover current cybersecurity threats to cloud computing. Students will analyze IT governance, risks, and controls to prevent and detect cybersecurity threats. Review how SOC Audits report different cybersecurity threats faced by Service Organizations. Students will learn how to leverage SOC Complementary End User Entity Controls.

We will review the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework and how it applies to Cloud Computing. Project findings will be presented to a Course Audit Committee made up of local executives and leaders. The students will collaborate and interact with Seattle U IT leaders, managers, and technical professionals. Students will be mentored and advised by current IT Auditors, who are practicing and doing some very innovative practices from companies such as Alaska, Amazon, Deloitte, EY, Microsoft, Nordstrom, Protiviti, and PWC.
