NURS 5141 - Foundational Concepts and Skills for Nursing: Theory3 credit hours This course examines the nature and context of nursing as a profession within the larger health care system using systems theory as a framework. Professional values, such as altruism, autonomy, human dignity and integrity are introduced as foundational to the practice of nursing. The students are also introduced to the concepts of health, health promotion and protection for individuals, families and communities. There is an emphasis on the role of the nurse in collaborating with an interprofessional team to provide quality and safe care.
