NURS 5131 - Promoting Population Health: Theory3 credit hours This course introduces students to the nursing care of populations through the exploration of systems theory, nursing science, public health science and community engagement. Students will explore the roles and competencies of public health nurses in identifying determinants of health and addressing health promotion and disease prevention across the life span. Four frameworks will guide their work: 1) the Ten Essential Services of Public Health; 2) Core Public Health Functions; 3) the Public Health Nursing Competencies; and 4) Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships.
