FILM 4001 - Film and Media Capstone I: Research, Planning, & Preparation

5 credit hours
How does one begin a major film studies or production project? What different approaches are available to students for studying or making films? How can one plan out and execute a research agenda? In this class, senior Film Studies students will begin preparing for their Capstone project in the degree, which they will complete in the Film Capstone II course. Students will be introduced to a broad range of film production and analytical methodologies, and will produce their own independent research into a project of their choosing. Much of the class will be spent individually workshopping student works. Early in the term, professors from the Film Studies program will model their own creative and scholarly practice, sharing and workshopping their own current works-in-progress. Students will subsequently develop individual research questions and carry out an extensive survey of existing work on their topic. They will leave prepared to work on a major project in the following quarter.
