STML 5000 - The Quest for Human Flourishing3 credit hours This course will examine the role religion has played in imagining and advancing human flourishing in our liberal, pluralistic, and unequal society. Pride of place will be given to competing narratives of faith in public and contested conceptions of justice and the common good. Students will be introduced to key accounts of religion in American civic life, from Tocqueville through Du Bois and the Niebuhr brothers, up to West and Casanova.
