NURS 6510 - Psychopharmacology and Complementary Therapeutics II

Examines advanced psychopharmacology concepts and the clinical management of psychpharmacology for complex populations across the lifespan. Students critically analyze concepts of pharmacogenetics, polypharmacy, off-label prescribing, and alternative options to psychotropic medications. Principles of clinically appropriate and ethically responsible practice are applied to dosing schedules, cross tapering, and discontinuation challenges. Findings from evidence-based clinical trials are applied to psychpharmacology and complementary therapeutics for specific populations. Emphasis is placed on the scope and standards of practice for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, including advocacy for socially just and responsible policies and tranlation of science and scholarship for practice improvement. Registration restrictions may be bypassed by the department with permission of instructor.
