NURS 6506 - Psychopharmacology and Complementary Therapeutics I4 credit hours Formerly - NURS 5052 Provides a knowledge base for the management of psychpharmacology and complementary therapeutics for patients with psychiatric symptoms and disorders across the lifespan. Students gain knowledge of psychopharmacology theory, evidence-based clinical guidelines, targets and mechanisms of drug action, drug-drug interactions, laboratory tests, monitoring guidelines, and complementary and alternative medicine options. Case-based learning provides opportunities to apply knowledge in clinical decision making. Emphasis is placed on the scope and standards of prescribing practice for psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, including ethical and legal issues, processes of informed consent, monitoring and safety, documentation, and adverse event reporting. Registration restrictions may be bypassed by the department with permission of instructor.
