NURS 6500 - Theory-Guided Psychotherapy and Health Promotion: Lab

2 credit hours
Examines theories and concepts that guide psychotherapy practice and the empowerment of individuals, families and groups to engage in health promotion and behavior change. Major psychotherappy models are analyzed for theoretical frameworks and evidence-based applications across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on the role of the advanced practice psychiatric nurse in assessing readines and motivation for behavior change and discerning legal, ethical and social justice issues in therapeutic relationships and psychotherapy practice. In the laboratory componenent of this course, students develop and demonstrate communication strategies and motivational interviewing skills that are foundational to psychotherapeutic interventions and psychotherapy practice. Registration restrictions may be bypassed by the department with permission of instructor.
