NURS 6254 - Population Health Promotion5 credit hours Addresses the stages of change and how social determents of health influence health behaviors. Focus is on the role of health promotion to create healthy environments and to optimize the health of communities or populations. The role of collaboration and the concepts of social capital and capacity building are emphasized. Social and environmental factors that influence successful outcomes are examined. The concept of social marketing is introduced. The connection between health promotion and policy developed is explored. Throughout the course examples of local and global health promotion are used. Registration restrictions may be bypassed by the department with permission of instructor.
