STML 5720 - Leadership as a Creative Act of Soul

3 credit hours
This course invites students to reflect both on themselves and the systems in which they will play a role by engaging them in reflection and exploration of leadership formation, identity, and practice as they relate to effectively navigating professional organizational contexts. Students will name their own cultural context and examine assumptions about other cultures as they interact with people toward a common goal. They will reflect on power differentials, communication preferences, conflict negotiation practices, and preferred leadership styles within a variety of cultural contexts. Students will also integrate learning through practical application, seek feedback, and attempt new strategies for leading change toward justice. This course offers students opportunities to be mentored as they articulate, apply, and hone theory to practice prior to and/or during their internship or initial professional experience and beyond. They will explore dimensions of leadership that are typically marginalized or muted, facets that are essential to leading consciously, ethically, and sustainably.

Terms Typically Offered: fall
