PHYS 205 - Modern Physics5 An introduction to special relativity and quantum physics for students of science and engineering. Topics covered include Einstein’s theory of special relativity and experimental evidence, evidence for the quantization of light, matter, and energy; the wave nature of matter; the Bohr model of the atom; wave-particle duality; the uncertainty principle; the Schrödinger equation and its applications; the Pauli exclusion principle, and selected applications in atomic, nuclear, and solid state physics. Prerequisites: PHYS 123, MATH 232. (spring)
