DICE 3020 - History of Text Technologies5 credit hours This course surveys text technologies that have been used to record and transmit cultural knowledge, memory, and imagination through space and time. Students will gain an understanding of how material culture reflects and informs ideology. Students will analyze the rhetoric inherent in artifacts and explore how major technological shifts emerge from and shape a specific cultural moment. Students analyze text technologies such as cave painting, codices, machine-made books, e-books, graphic novels, graffiti, tattoos, and digital media.
