ENSC 3700 - Scientific Applications of Geographic Information Systems

5 credit hours
Application of Geographic Information Systems to perform geographic analysis relevant to a range of scientific problems. Topics include: using raster and vector representations of spatial variables to create maps and perform analysis; deriving new datasets using geoprocessing tools such as intersection, union, joins and relates, and raster math; mapping and analyzing data collected in the field; editing vector data; aligning imagery with background maps; and extending the GIS environment with macros and add-ins. The course applies these tools to problems related to watershed hydrology, ecological analysis, and infrastructure management.
