PSYC 3190 - Cultural Psychology of Religion5 credit hours Religions have motivated warmongers and peacemakers from various cultures and religions, such as Nobel Peace Prize winners Mother Teresa (1979), the Dalai Lama (1989) and Yemini Tawakel Karman (youngest laureate, 2011). Yet religion is hard to grasp. This course approaches religion from the perspectives and methods of cultural psychology, investigating psychological processes (such as perception), faith development, and the meanings of religious contructs in specific cultural contexts, particularly in cases of confict. Students will explore the diversity of religion in local cultures and apply what they learn to conduct their own study.
