FILM 4513 - Great Directors: Bergman5 credit hours Formerly - FILM 403 A study of one of the giants of modernist cinema, a director whose films initiated and nourished the art house/foreign film phenomenon that swept college campuses in the late fifties. Bergman exerted an enormous influence on the development and direction of film art in the second half of the 20th century, including not only his artistry, but also his existential, angst-ridden philosophical probing of human experience. The course will include such masterpieces as The Virgin Spring, The Seventh Seal, and Wild Strawberries. ST
